I am an entrepreneur who made his first million at a young age of 22 years old. I then started some businesses which includes direct selling, manufacturing, trading, and the restaurant business. I thought I knew the definition of success, but I was grossly mistaken, because at the age of 30, me and my wife lost everything.

We lost millions and incurred millions of debt from our failed businesses. God is good though; we were able to recover and pay our debts in 2 years. This experience made me stronger, wiser, and more dependent on God. The year we lost everything, I thought that was the worst year of my life. But eventually I realized that it was the best year after all. My relationship with God was superficial all these years. When everything was taken away from me, I discovered that I only needed one thing, or one person… Jesus. All this time, the gospel was just in my head, it was never in my heart.

In everything that had happened in my life, I hold on to this verse:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. -Romans 8:28 (NIV)

I have experienced success and I have experienced failure, and as the author of Ecclesiastes sums it: “Life is meaningless.” The only one who gives meaning to our life is God.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, -Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

My life was about success and achievements. Now I know that Instead of focusing on success, we should focus on God. He is the one who will show you the true definition of success and will reveal your YOUnique purpose in life.
