Chris August has a way of writing songs that are not verse-heavy but cut through the heart, still. “The Maker” is a simple yet wonderful song on God the Creator of all, God our Maker, but also as the personal God our Father. Another gem from this artist is “Pieces”

In the song, Chris talks about God as son who knows His Dad very well, with full confidence, taking comfort in His father heart, confessing how big the love of Love Himself is. A way that all of us should, but more than should, could.

You don’t give your heart in pieces
You don’t hide yourself to tease us
Uncontrolled, uncontained
Your love is a fire burning bright for me
It’s not just a spark, not just a flame
Your love is a light that all the world will see

In these lines lie a proclamation of someone who has encountered the Father’s unrelenting love. It will take different circumstances for us to get to know God much deeper and differently from how we saw Him then. It’s in mercy-filled mornings we get to know God as a God of forgiveness, no matter our past, whether it’s years ago or moments ago that we felt so undeserving of Him. It’s in arriving at our own Red Sea, our own dead end, that we see God part whatever we thought was hopeless.

Friends, this overflowing, relentless, unstoppable love of God is available to all of us. We may have been looking for love for so long, or have been holding on to someone’s love, and yet it doesn’t feel enough. Chris puts it well when he said in the bridge:

Love keeps its promises,
It keeps its word
It honors what’s sacred,
It’s vows are good
Your love’s not broken,
It’s not insecure
Your love’s not selfish,
Yes, your love is pure

This is the love you and I can freely tap into. The grace of God is something we will never deserve on our own, working for our salvation is futile and head knowledge as good as rags. Would you like to have this love in your life from here on out?

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. -1 John 4:16
