FAITH AND GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
“if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.”
2 Timothy 2:13 ESV
Have you ever felt your faith faltering? Did you ever find yourself in a situation where all hope is gone and a moment wherein you recluse to your doubts, your faith wavering?
We have all gone through those deep moments of despair. All of us have experienced that dark situation in our lives whether it be problems in our work, conflicts in relationships, issues in the family, and many other circumstances that seem to rage beyond our control.
It is in these moments that our faith wavers and we feel hopeless. We lack the faith to believe in the Lord and His promises. What do we do about it?
Scripture simply states that if you lack faith, ask for it! The apostles told Jesus, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5). Our lack of faith does not nullify God’s faithfulness. The book of Hebrews exclaims, Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever (13:9)! Be encouraged that God is still the same God regardless of how we feel or whatever dire circumstances we find ourselves in.
More often than not, we will feel “faithless”. We will feel doubtful. If we respond to God with, “Lord, I’m full of doubt. I’m scared. I’m weak. Nonetheless, I will trust you. I will ask for Your help and guidance,” we act in faith, even though we may feel doubt in the time being.
One example of wavering faith is when Peter stepped out in faith from the boat (Matthew 14:28-33). He miraculously started to walk on water but when the wind and waves came, Peter became afraid and started to doubt in the middle of all that was happening. As Peter began to sink, he uttered the shortest prayer in all of the Bible, with “Lord, save me” and Jesus was indeed faithful to save him!
In the same way, God will reach out and hold our hand in whatever wavy doubt-filled situation you find yourself facing. Take courage today and ask the Lord for faith that grows stronger, along with the humility and dependence that can cry out: “Lord, save me!”
