“All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.”
Proverbs 21:2

The phrase ‘Confirm before you conclude’ helps a lot of people not to judge a person’s actions but to know the motivation behind it. Knowing that people often judge based on what they see, the tendency to hide our motives behind every good act is inevitable. Deciding on our own, thinking on our own and even to hide our real motivation to get what we want is something that deserves our attention because it strips us away of the chance to see God’s faithfulness. Self deception is a problem inside our hearts that is difficult to asses and admit because mostly we are torn between getting what we want or just letting Him have His way.

Solomon, David’s son reminds us “All a man’s way seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.”

He tells us that we can hide our motivation for every activity but the Lord knows our motivation. The one who created the Universe sees everything in us that we can never lie to Him. And since the Lord is in control of all things, it is possible that we will not get what we ask for because of our wrong motives. Controlling situations to work for us than relying on the One who have a supreme authority makes our faith stagnant and worse, malnourished.

Is there something in your life that deserves reflection and redirection towards a God- honoring motive?

Honestly asking ourselves about our motives will help us asses our hearts and honor the God who sees everything and have the authority over everything. Doing what looks right on our own eyes results only in failure. We must always be reminded that God looks at the center of our being and there He sees our real motives. Honoring God will allow us to trust in Him and have faith in Him. We could hide everything from people but nothing is hidden from the Lord.
