How can you glorify God at work?
- Work for the Lord
- Be an ambassador for Christ and display a godly work ethic
- Show compassion and love among co-workers
- Be a good steward of money
- Share the gospel to your colleagues
Did you recently get accepted for that job position you’ve always wanted, and ever wondered how to glorify God at work? According to the best Christian radio station in Manila, the workplace is one of the key places to glorify God. Yet many Christians don’t realize this fact.
Many people are forced to work from home due to the pandemic. Nonetheless, these unprecedented times don’t undermine the truth that we are ambassadors for Christ and the workplace is a mission field to lead souls to Him. God placed you in your specific work to fulfill His purpose. So, what are the ways that you can glorify God at work? We’ve listed five of them below. Read on!
Work For The Lord
Colossians 3:23 commands, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”. The context of this verse was based on Paul’s directions for Christian slaves. Even in their role, Paul reminded them that they should be working for the Lord.
Keep in mind that everything you do at work is a service for Him. You are called to work to honor God and not for human masters or “earthly goals”. While you’re on the job, you should do every task wholeheartedly for the Lord. It is a blessing to have a job, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when worker layoffs and business closures were rampant.
Think as if you are doing your job to serve Christ and do them in a way that glorifies Him. God deserves nothing but your best effort.
Be an Ambassador For Christ and Display a Godly Work Ethic
According to 2 Corinthians 5:20, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God”.
If you claim to be a Christian at work and yet don’t act like one, you are showing your co-workers that Christians are not good ambassadors for Christ. Ambassadors represent their own country and fulfill their tasks with a professional attitude. You interact for hours across multiple days a week with your co-workers. As an ambassador for Christ, you are to display a godly work ethic at all times, promoting God through your every action and word.
For example, if you are faced with a decision to do something morally wrong (unethical) or risk losing your job, ask what you would do as an ambassador for Christ. Displaying a godly word ethic speaks volumes about how you glorify God at work. It shows that you will always do what is right and not compromise with sin. In the end, how you perform before God will influence how your co-workers view Christianity.
Show Compassion and Love Among Co-Workers
Remember to show love to your co-workers. Take the time to display compassion when others have problems. Be known as the co-worker that cares. Show the love of God in your actions. 1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love”.
Be a Good Steward of Money
As you continue to work, you will be able to make money. Be reminded that you are only a steward of that money and it belongs to God. If you want to glorify God, don’t simply go to work every day to earn money. Look for ways on how the money can be used to further God’s kingdom. Being a good steward of money is an indication of trustworthiness with true riches — which is eternal life (Luke 16:11).
A good way to go about this is to tithe. According to Leviticus 27:30, “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord”. In general, tithing is a reminder that everything belongs to God. It was intended to separate God’s chosen people from others during the time that the Israelites were freed from Egypt.
Share the Gospel to Your Colleagues
As you continue to do your role of being an ambassador for Christ and working in His name, it would not be far-fetched to have colleagues ask you about your faith. Always be ready to share the gospel with your colleagues, but remember to do it with respect.
1 Peter 3:15 reminds, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”.
If you’re wondering how to glorify God at work, we’ve listed five ways above. As a Christian, you are brought to this world to give honor to God and you can do that by working for the Lord rather than for men, being an ambassador for Christ, showing love, being a good steward of the money you earn, and sharing the Gospel when you can.
