The Grammy Award-winning and multiple-platinum selling album, Casting Crowns, released a new single this year called, “Only Jesus.” Casting Crowns is a contemporary Christian band started in 1999 by youth pastor Mark Hall who also serves as the band’s lead vocalist. The song was composed by Mark Hall and by Christian singer-songwriter Matthew West.

The song has a powerful message about what we are truly searching for in our lives. In today’s society have become an achievement and legacy-obsessed society that we often strive to please others in everything we do. But is this what is truly important?

Mark Hall puts it this way: “There’s much talk these days about legacy. How do we want to be remembered? The more I think about it the more I’m reminded that anything in me that’s worth remembering are the things that Jesus has worked on, and is still working on in me. On my own, I have nothing to offer the world, but Jesus does – so don’t mind me. Jesus is the only name to remember.”

The song reminds us that despite all the things of this world, it truly isn’t anything. The legacy left behind will perish and eventually disappear. But the one thing that will last and His name is Jesus. The song emphasizes that the only thing worth remembering is Jesus and only Jesus.
