Paghilom by Victory Worship

Victory Worship is a group of worship leaders and musicians from Victory Christian Fellowship (better known as Victory) in the Philippines, the church founded by Steve & Deborah Murrell, together with Rice Brooks and 65 other American university students on a one-month summer mission trip. Since 1984, Victory has grown its congregation and is now one of the megachurches in the country.

From 2014 with their first album “Radical Love”, the band has released 3 EPs (extended plays), 5 albums, and 6 singles.

From the 6 singles is their newest song entitled “Paghilom”, a song that talks about healing in the midst of the current global pandemic. The song’s official live music video was released August 13, 2021 and the audio for both studio and live version was released 6 days later on their YouTube channel.

In a video from Victory Worship’s official YouTube channel, Cathy Go, one of the group’s main worship leader and singer for the song Paghilom, said,

“Itong Paghilom, nasulat namin siya nila Kuya Lee, Tim, ako via zoom last year kasagsagan ng ECQ. And yung song na ‘to was inspired by 2 Chronicles 7:14, ‘Kung ang Aking bayan na tinawag sa pamamagitan ng Aking pangalan ay magpapakumbaba at dumalangin at hanapin ang Aking mukha at talikuran ang kanilang mga masamang lakad, Akin ngang didinggin sa langit at ipapatawad Ko ang kanilang kasalanan at papagalingin ko ang kanilang bayan.’ So we wrote this song during a difficult time for all of us and we wanted to write a song about hope. Of course yung puso ng Panginoon para sating lahat is to heal us, and ang prayer namin, is that this song would help us realize our need for God; and that, ang tunay na paghilom at kagalingan ay magmumula lamang sa Panginoon.”

(Translation: Kuya Lee, Tim and I wrote Paghilom via zoom last year at the onset of ECQ. This song was inspired by 2 Chronicles 7:14, if people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. So we wrote this song during a difficult time for all of us and we wanted to write a song about hope. Of course, the heart of God for us is to heal us, and our prayer is that this song would help us our need for God; and that mending and healing only comes from the Lord.)

A song written to share healing and hope in the midst of the current global pandemic, co-vocalist Lee Simon Brown says the song is also about hope and healing even in personal life issues.
