Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant  or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is, perhaps, the most sought after emotion by humankind; yet it is also the most mysterious of all gifts given to us by God.  Many try to define it.  Many try to describe it.  Many try to figure it out.  Unfortunately, there are many who go through life without actually knowing true love.   Groups of people even fight for it and the right to express it  – at least for the kind of love they think they know.

The question is, how do we really know what love is?  The bible gives us a clear  description in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.  Before we go and seek this from outside ourselves, let us look closer at its Foundation.

Try replacing the word “love” and “it” with your name.  How did you fare?

Now let’s try this:  replace the word “love” and “it” with JESUS.   This is what we will get:

JESUS is patient and kind; JESUS does not envy or boast; JESUS is not arrogant  or rude. JESUS does not insist on its own way; JESUS is not irritable or resentful; JESUS does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  JESUS bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. JESUS never ends.

Jesus is Love.  Jesus is the way of love.

If you want to know how to love and what love is like?  Look to Jesus and take it from Him.
