WHEN CANCER STRIKES
If there is one thing that will leave you dumbstruck, its receiving bad news. Cancer is among the worst news one could receive.
In 2015, Mark Hall, lead vocalist of a contemporary Christian band “Casting Crowns” announced in their Facebook Fanpage that he will be undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous mass in his kidney. Eventually, the doctor needed to remove the whole kidney, leaving the singer with only one.
The news shocked millions of fans. But, together with the band, they went down on their knees and prayed.
Life is an open book
Mark Hall and the rest of Casting Crowns were transparent with the struggles that they faced. They were not afraid to share details of what they were going through, counting the blessings and trials they have received throughout the journey. For the fans, these honest updates was an opportunity to pray for Mark in more detail.
A vibrant community support
The support that the band received was nothing short of incredible. Fans, supporters and media showed their concern by sending encouragement and prayers via social media, using the hashtag #prayingforMark.
Never stop praying
Even after the surgery, the band family kept #PrayingforMark active. Melanie, Mark Hall’s wife, constantly posted reminders to continue lifting their situation in prayer.
This situation has been reminded several times in Scripture.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV): “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Romans 12:12 (ESV): “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer”.
Truly, prayer is persistent in the Christian life.
